Both Johan and I have been working with modular java frameworks and runtime environments for years – so being given an opportunity to share our experiences and help developers quickly come up to speed was a fortuity. Our goal was write the book such that a java developer could pick it up on a Friday afternoon and come Monday morning be ready to join a team project based in OSGi, with an already established software architecture, and be productive.”

Continuing in Savoir Technologies’ commitment to open source development and leading edge technologies our Computer Systems Analyst and “Instant OSGi Starter” co-author, Jamie Goodyear, will be presenting a session entitled “Apache Karaf in the trenches” at OSGi DevCon 2013 – an OSGi conference co-located with EclipseCon Boston 2013.

Apache Karaf is a small, light weight server side OSGi runtime environment, that has been gaining in popularity in the Apache and OSGi community. The shift towards using OSGi environments has introduced new challenges to architects, developers, and operators in building and deploying these systems. In this session I will share some of my experiences in developing, deploying, and maintaining OSGi based software systems among Global 2000 companies targeting the Apache Karaf runtime environment.

The talk will be broken down into three sections:

• A brief introduction to Apache Karaf
• Best practices in deployment
• Best practices for developing applications

In addition, Apache CXF 2.4.10/2.5.6/2.6.3 has been released as well. Over 50 JIRA issues were fixed for 2.6.3 which many of those fixes back ported to the other branches.

This is mostly a patch release to fix problems and issues that users have encountered.

Press Release – Savoir Technologies, Inc®, a leader in open source Java SOA Technologies has been selected to present a session at the BSides Security Conference St John’s 2012 in St John’s, NL, Canada, Sept 21, 2012. The presentation focuses on the procedure for reporting a security vulnerability to an Apache project, what you as a reporter should expect to see happen as the project community validates the issue, and proceeds towards a resolution. Switching gears, we’ll talk about how users can validate that their Apache project downloads are in fact legitimate.
